When running a Saved Search with only one result, NetSuite bypasses the list view and brings you directly to the record. Did you know there is a way to change this behavior?
Saved Searches
A great NetSuite experience is not typically achieved in one fell swoop. It must be slowly created by reducing small friction points, gradually improving step by step until something amazing is designed for your company.
Saved Searches are a versatile and simple way to search for any kind of record in NetSuite. The most important part of a Saved Search is “Filters.” Specifying filters will narrow the results to just what you need. But sometimes if the filter is especially narrow, only one result will return from the search. When this is the case, NetSuite defaults to directing you right to the record instead of showing the standard Saved Search list. This can be inconvenient and even confusing at times. If you’re accustomed to seeing a list with certain columns you specified on the Saved Search, you may desire to see the list instead.
List View Preference
Thankfully, there is a way to change this behavior. NetSuite has a setting to still show the list view if there is only one result. Navigate to “Set Preferences” under the home icon in the navigation menu.
Once there, click the “Analytics” tab. On the right side, you will find the “Show List When Only One Result” checkbox. Once this is checked and the changes are saved, you will now see the list view in the Saved Search when you only have one result.
It is important to note, however, that this setting will only apply to your user login. Set Preferences only handles NetSuite settings on a user-by-user basis. This change will not effect any other users unless they enable the same checkbox for their user as well.
Conclusion
The default Saved Search behavior for one result is clearly a friction point for many. Otherwise, NetSuite wouldn’t have included an option to adjust it. If you are excited to learn about this setting, let us know in the comments below!
