How to Reposition a Transaction Line Field

NetSuite for Administrators

Sublist Fields

Sublist fields, also known as “Transaction Line Fields,” are very important in NetSuite. Many people know how to create a sublist line field, but do you know how to rearrange their positioning?

If you have ever tried to change the position of a sublist field from the field record (see picture below), you probably know that this doesn’t actually change the positioning in every case. Thankfully, there is a more sure-fire way to get sublist fields to a new position.

Step 1: Navigate to a Transaction Record

Our first step is to simply navigate to an instance of the transaction record type. For example, if you’re trying to change a field on a Sales Order, you can navigate to any Sales Order (new or old) to change the field position.

Step 2: Select “Customize Form”

On the top right of the transaction record, you should see three options—List, Search, and Customize. If you hover over Customize, a small list will drop down. Click the “Customize Form” option. If you’re not able to see the Customize option, it may be because you do not have Administrator access to adjust the form.

Step 3: Navigate to the “Sublist Fields” Tab and Find Your Field

Once the page loads, navigate to the “Sublist Fields” tab. This will show you all the sublist line fields on that transaction record.

Step 4: Click the Field Line and Drag to Corrected Position

From here, you can locate your field in the list and click and drag it up or down to the correct position. Oh, and don’t forget to save to apply the changes!
